【story】
Bakin Takizawa, a popular Edo period novelist, begins to tell his friend, the artist Hokusai Katsushika, a story he is planning called "Legend of the Eight Dogs." It is a grand and bizarre tale of eight swordsmen, each carrying eight jewels, who come together as if guided by fate to engage in a fierce battle in order to break a curse placed on the Satomi family.
Hokusai was instantly captivated. Curious to know what would happen next, he visited the museum frequently and drew rough sketches that would inspire Bakin's creative endeavors. The story, which captivated Hokusai, gained popularity and was serialized for an unusually long time, but as it approached its climax, Bakin became blind. With no hope of completing the work, his daughter-in-law offered to help him. What was the feeling that Bakin put into "The Tale of the Eight Dogs," which he continued to write for 28 years even after going blind?
