A shining monument in the early days of Japanese rock.
Sadistic Mika Band is a rare rock band formed by Kazuhiko Kato.
Formed by Kazuhiko Kato, vocalist Mika, and drummer Hiro Tsunoda. Masayoshi Takanaka joined on guitar and debuted in 1972 with the single "Cycling Boogie". Yukihiro Takahashi joined as drummer and Rei Ohara on bass, and released their first album "Sadistic Mika Band" on May 5, 1973. This year marks the 50th anniversary of their debut album.
Later, keyboardist Yutaka Imai joined the band, and bassist Tsugutoshi Goto took over, bringing in other notable Japanese MUSICIANS. The band created an era with its overwhelming production power and presence.
This reissue picks up three original albums and one live album from the first period when MIKA was the vocalist, from 1973 to 1976. It is a permanent preservation edition box set that includes the EP that came with the first album.
The album was cut at half speed by Miles Showell of Abbey Road Studios in London under the supervision of original producer Kazunaga Nitta and Chris Thomas, who also worked with The Beatles and Pink Floyd. It also comes with a LP-sized photo book by photographer Masayoshi Sukita, who captured the band at the time.
