Southern All Stars is a one-of-a-kind band that celebrated their 45th debut anniversary last year in 2023, and continues to be active today, announcing the production of a new original album in 2024, and continues to lead the Japanese music SOUTHERN ALL STARS with their many hit songs.
Music critic Nobuaki Onuki has written a detailed and exhaustive account of Southern All Stars' journey from their birth to their rise to national fame, and then their indefinite hiatus to the present day.
This is the definitive book on SOUTHERN ALL STARS and unravelling their songs, their appeal as musicians, and their future.
This book was written based on what I learned and felt from covering SOUTHERN ALL STARS over the years. I was extremely grateful that just as I was almost done writing, Kuwata kindly gave me some time to do some additional interviews. All of Kuwata's quotes in the text, except for those where the source is clearly stated, were made from what I heard directly from him. However, one thing that can be said consistently is that the "work" of SOUTHERN ALL STARS is the main focus of this book.
