【story】
Having failed the bar exam and unsure of his future, Saeki Kentaro learns a shocking truth on the day of his grandmother Matsuno's funeral. He discovers that he and his grandfather, Kenichiro, are not actually related by blood, but have a different "blood grandfather." His real grandfather's name is Miyabe Kyuzo. 60 years ago, he fought as a Zero fighter pilot in the Pacific War and died in a suicide mission just before the end of the war. Kentaro visits his former war comrades to find out more about Miyabe. However, he hears harsh criticisms of him, such as that he was "the Navy's biggest coward." Despite his genius piloting skills, Miyabe was more obsessed with "returning alive" than destroying the enemy, and was the first to abandon his plane in melee combat. "I will definitely return to my family" was the only promise Miyabe made to his wife, Matsuno. Why did such a man choose to commit suicide? Kentaro eventually discovers someone who knew Miyabe's final moments, and learns a shocking truth... What is the message that Miyabe risked his life to leave behind? And will Kentaro, who lives in the present day, be able to receive it?
