【story】
"Ossan's Love" is a highly talked-about work that stole the show in viewers' living rooms across the nation as a new type of "heart-pounding pure love story" that easily transcended the preconceived notions of the time. It is about a 33-year-old, single, office worker, Haruta Soichi (Tanaka Kei), who wants to get married but is not popular with women, and one day, he is suddenly confessed to by his older boss, Kurosawa Musashi (Yoshida Kotaro), who hides the heart of a pure maiden, and his handsome but sadistic junior colleague, Maki Ryota (Hayashi Kento), with whom he lives.
Haruta, an employee at the Tenku Real Estate sales office who wants to get married but is not popular at all, is shocked when his respected boss Kurosawa suddenly confesses his love to him: "Harutan... I love you!" At the same time, he ends up living with Maki, a handsome elite junior who has been transferred to the sales office and is perfect at housework and cooking, but Maki suddenly confesses his love to him in the bathroom.
He finds himself in an unprecedented period of popularity that far exceeds his imagination. Although Haruta should have done everything in his power to reject the men who approach him, he soon finds himself unable to get the "too pure men" out of his head. God, what does it mean to "fall in love with someone"...?
Before long, the people around Haruta, Kurosawa, and Maki are drawn into the action, and the love battle royale between the middle-aged men accelerates! Feeling excited, confused, and sometimes in tears over this straightforward love, Haruta goes through many twists and turns before deciding to accept Kurosawa's proposal, but on the day of their wedding, at the moment they pledge their love in the church, he finally realizes his true feelings. "Go!" Kurosawa urges Haruta, who runs to Maki in tears, and shouts his love across the crosswalk, "Marry me!" This touching love story ends in a frenzy on social media! Related words dominate the trends, and many people fall victim to "Ossan's Love Loss," and the series ends with a great fever.
It's been five years since then.
After a long-distance relationship during the COVID-19 pandemic, Haruta and Maki are finally starting their belated married life. With the new year upon them, Haruta had been dreaming of spending lovey-dovey days together eating meals, playing games, and going on dates, but Maki, who has been promoted to section manager, has been extremely busy since returning to Japan... They start fighting more and more over trivial matters, such as dividing up household chores and separating trash.
Meanwhile, Haruta has become a section chief at Tenku Real Estate and is put in charge of training his older subordinate, Izumi Yuki (Iura Arata), who joined the company through mid-career recruitment. However, Izumi is somehow absent-minded, not very good at posting flyers, and can't even use Excel...Haruta desperately tries to teach him kindly, but in the end he bursts into tears and runs away, showing signs of emotional instability...!?
Unable to bear seeing the two of them like that, Arai Chizu (Uchida Rio) introduces them to the housekeeping service "Bashauma Cleaning Service," which she herself uses. Haruta and Maki decide to use the housekeeping service in the hopes of giving them some more time together. The person who shows up at their house is none other than "Musashi the Housekeeper," who has re-employed after retiring early!
Haruta is overwhelmed with joy at the "unexpected reunion" with Musashi, who disappeared after retiring early and no one could contact him at all, while Maki is filled with a bad premonition at the appearance of her former love rival. However, Musashi's "love for Harutan" from back then is gone, and he is somewhat aloof, businesslike, and sticks to his professional work manner. However, he gradually starts nagging her about the way she cleans, the seasoning of her food, and so on, and before long, a hellish "mother-in-law and daughter-in-law battle" breaks out...!
As time passes, the relationships around them also change. Chizu becomes a single mother and struggles to balance work and childcare, Takekawa (Mashima Hidekazu) loses his way in love and becomes absorbed in an app, Kuribayashi (Kaneko Daichi) and Choko (Otsuka Nene) start living in a two-family home, and Maika (Ito Shuko) and Teppei (Kojima Kazuya) become a family of four. And a mysterious man (Miura Shohei) appears near Tenku Real Estate, running a mobile bonito flake rice ball specialty store called "Omusubi Gororin"...
"God, what does it mean to become a family?"
The hilarious, heart-warming family drama that Harutan, almost 40, takes on has finally begun!
