[Contents]
Hanpeita Takechi, a patriot from the end of the Edo period, travels back in time to the present day, 150 years later!
This is a "Samurai x Time Travel x Comedy" story that depicts the samurai's confusion at modern Japanese civilization and ideas, which are completely different from the era he lived in, while cutting through the claustrophobic modern Japan with the straightforwardness unique to a samurai who sticks to his beliefs!
The protagonist of the story, Takechi Hanpeita, is played by Kanjani8's Ryo Nishikido, who is highly acclaimed as an actor for his wide range of acting. This time, he takes on the role of a historical figure for the first time, playing the difficult role of a samurai from the end of the Edo period who gets lost in the modern world, sometimes comically and sometimes full of pathos. Takechi Hanpeita was a leader who advocated Sonno Joi (revere the Emperor and expel the barbarians) in the Tosa clan at the end of the Edo period and led his patriots. Due to a twist of fate, he transcends time and becomes a modern-day cram school teacher in a topknot and hakama, solving various problems that arise around him in a refreshing way that only a samurai could!
The cast surrounding Nishikido is also colorful. The members of the Saeki family, where Hanpeita takes refuge after he is lost on the streets, are played by a diverse cast of actors including Higa Manami, Fujii Ryusei (Johnny's WEST), and Morimoto Leo, as well as a unique cast of actors including Kuroshima Yuina, Nicole Ishida, and Kajiwara Zen! In addition, Ryunosuke Kamiki plays the role of Sakamoto Ryoma, who travels back in time to the present day before Hanpeita and lives in Tokyo as a journalist!
Broadcast on TV Asahi from October 2015. 8 episodes in total.
