Gen Hoshino appears on the cover and in an interview with AERA
"I want to show my well-thought-out ideas."
On the cover of the February 20th expanded issue of AERA, which goes on sale February 13th, Gen Hoshino, who is a musician, actor, and writer, will appear. After three years of the COVID-19 pandemic, Hoshino says, "It feels like I'm moving on to the next stage," and in a long interview he talks about his current thoughts. Also, don't miss the numerous photos of Hoshino taken by Mika Ninagawa.
Gen Hoshino, who appears on the cover, is appearing in this magazine for the first time in a year and a half. Looking back on the past year, he experienced the sensation of reaching beyond borders with "Comedy" and how "Interworld Mixed Ball (feat. Ghosts)" resonated in places different from before, such as TikTok, he said, "I did it intentionally, so I was able to achieve my goal." However, he said, "The world has become even more dangerous, and a mountain of sad things have happened," and firmly stated, "I was able to solidify my way of life from now on." After such a period, he will soon release a music video collection. Hoshino, who says that "MVs are self-expression," says, "It's fun to come up with ideas, and it's fun to think about whether I can create something that will last forever," and "Basically, what I want to do is different from the world." It is a long interview in which he talks a lot about his desire to show the accumulation of his ideas. The photos taken by Mika Ninagawa, which evoke Hoshino's creative sensibility, capture a variety of expressions. Please take a look at the magazine.
● Featured article: "Unprecedented price hikes"
The editorial department has received cries of distress such as, "I live alone, but my electricity bill for January was over 20,000 yen," "Because I use all-electric appliances, the increase in electricity bills has really hit home," and "Price increases have been felt for all products at the supermarket. It's tough for pensioners." We interviewed people to find out how long the rush of price increases for electricity, gas, food, and gasoline will continue. We also analyze the future of the weak yen, one of the main causes of high prices. We also introduce "49 ways to save money starting today." We have collected some little tips for saving money, such as "don't turn the air conditioner on and off frequently," "eat with your family and reduce the number of times you reheat food," and "set a budget when shopping." There is no doubt that these will be useful starting today.
● Questioning the Kishida administration's lack of awareness of human rights
Arai Katsuyoshi, the secretary to the Prime Minister, was dismissed due to discriminatory remarks about LGBTQ. However, Prime Minister Kishida, who called the remarks "outrageous," has also made remarks denying diversity, saying that legalizing same-sex marriage "will change society." We interviewed LGBTQ people and journalist Egawa Shoko about this situation, which makes us conclude that the Kishida administration lacks awareness of human rights. Please listen to the voices of those involved, such as "I feel a mixture of frustration, sadness, and pain," and "I want concrete legislation to be put in place, rather than just paying lip service to respecting diversity and human rights."
●Kouhei Matsushita 19 Colors
This is the fourth and final episode of a dialogue featuring veterinarian Kaisaku Ota. The conversation continues, full of love for animals and new learnings. Ota says, "Life without animals is a waste," to which Matsushita responds, "The first thing I can do is convey the joy of living with dogs and cats." At the end, Matsushita shares his thoughts after the dialogue and describes Ota with a color. Be sure to check out this dialogue, where you can see a different side of Matsushita as an actor and singer.
