Gen Hoshino appears on the cover and in an interview with AERA
"I want to show my well-thought-out ideas."
The February 20th expanded issue of AERA, on sale February 13th, features Gen Hoshino, a musician, actor, and writer with a wide range of achievements. After three years of the COVID-19 pandemic, Hoshino says, "It feels like I'm moving on to the next stage," and in this lengthy interview, he shares his thoughts. Also not to be missed are the numerous photographs of Hoshino taken by Mika Ninagawa.
This is Gen Hoshino 's first interview with our magazine in a year and a half. Looking back on the past year, he experienced the sensation of reaching beyond borders with "Comedy" and how "Interworldly Mixed Ball (feat. Ghost)" resonated in places he hadn't before, like TikTok, he says, "I intended to do that, so I was able to achieve my goal." However, he adds, "The world has become even more dangerous, and a ton of sad things have happened," and firmly states that amidst all of this, "I've been able to solidify my way of life going forward." After such a period, Hoshino will soon be releasing a collection of music videos. Hoshino describes music videos as a form of self-expression, saying, "I enjoy coming up with ideas, and I enjoy thinking about whether I can create something that will last forever." "I realize that what I want to do is fundamentally different from what the world wants to do." In this lengthy interview, he talks extensively about his desire to showcase his accumulation of ideas. The newly shot photos by Mika Ninagawa evoke Hoshino's creative sensibilities, capturing a variety of expressions. Be sure to check them out in the magazine.
●Featured Article: "Unprecedented Price Rise"
Our editorial team has received cries of distress, such as, "I live alone, but my electricity bill for January was over 20,000 yen," "I live entirely electric, so the electricity price hike is really hitting home," and "Price increases are being felt for everything at the supermarket. It's tough for pensioners." We interviewed people to find out how long the surge in price hikes for electricity, gas, food, and gasoline will continue. We also analyze the future of the weak yen, one of the main causes of rising prices. We also introduce "49 Money-Saving Tips You Can Start Using Today." We've collected some small tips for saving money, such as "Don't turn the air conditioner on and off too frequently," "Eat meals together as a family to reduce the number of times you reheat food," and "Set a budget when shopping." We're sure to find them useful starting today.
Questioning the Kishida administration's lack of awareness of human rights
Prime Minister Katsuyoshi Arai, a private secretary to the prime minister, was dismissed following discriminatory remarks about LGBTQ people. However, Prime Minister Kishida, who described the remarks as "outrageous," has also made statements that reject diversity, saying that legalizing same-sex marriage "would change society." We spoke with LGBTQ people and journalist Shoko Egawa about this situation, which clearly shows the Kishida administration's lack of awareness of human rights. We hope you will listen to the voices of those involved, who include "I feel a mixture of frustration, sadness, and pain," and "I want concrete legislation to be put in place, rather than just paying lip service to respecting diversity and human rights."
● Kohei Matsushita: 19 Colors
This fourth and final installment of the conversation features veterinarian Kaisaku Ota as guest. The conversation continues, filled with love for animals and new learnings. Ota says, "A life without animals is a waste," to which Matsushita responds, "The first thing I can do is convey the joy of living with dogs and cats." At the end, Matsushita shares his thoughts after the conversation and describes Ota in a color. Be sure to check out this conversation, where you'll see a different side of Matsushita as an actor and singer.
