He started skating at the age of four and won the World Junior Championships at the age of 15. He won back-to-back gold medals at the Sochi and Pyeongchang Olympics, and attempted the unprecedented quad axel... Yuzuru Hanyu is a one-of-a-kind figure skater who has always aimed for greater heights. He continues to push forward, with the same spirit of inquiry he had when he first began skating. "Yuzuru Hanyu Photo Collection Shin" explores the origins of Hanyu, who turns 30 this year.
The key visual was selected from a shot showing an intense expression in a situation where it looks like he has been hit by raindrops. A floating dance synchronized with the studio's background music, languid eyes in front of urban neon lights, a silence as if all sound has stopped... We present a number of photographs, all in black and white, that get to the origins of Hanyu's expression.
In this exclusive interview, themed on "heart," Hanyu looks back on his second year since turning professional, what he has gained, and what he envisions for the future. The interviewer is sports writer Matsubara Takaomi. Other projects are planned in line with the concept of the photo book. Q&A with Hanyu from fans will be included in "Shin."
