Yuzuru Hanyu appears on the cover of AERA for the second consecutive issue
Mika Ninagawa photographs "dancing in a monochrome world" in pursuit of "expressions no one has ever seen before"
Professional skater Yuzuru Hanyu appears on the cover of the August 26th expanded edition of AERA for the second consecutive issue. Mika Ninagawa, the magazine's cover photographer, has taken a photo of "Yuzuru Hanyu dancing in a monochrome world." Witness the "never-before-seen expression" created by these two artists.
Yuzuru Hanyu will grace the cover of two consecutive issues, a first in AERA's history. In stark contrast to the refreshing, light-soaked cover of the first issue, the second issue captures him dancing freely, sporting a seductive expression in a monochrome world. His refined movements, captured in every moment, exude an overwhelming presence. The camera of our cover photographer, Mika Ninagawa, follows him in every direction. This issue features "Unchanging profundity revealed in a colorless world." The previous issue featured a world shimmering with colorful hues. These will be released on November 1st as the all-black and white photo book "Shin" and the all-color photo book "Gi." Please look forward to them.
●Front Feature: Joy and Tears at the Paris Olympics
The Paris Olympics saw heated competition every day. Inspirational scenes are brought back to life one after another, including fencing, which took the country of chivalry by storm, the success of gymnastics champion Shinnosuke Oka, and skateboarding, where pre-teens excelled. The magazine is packed with dramatic photographs, capturing the excitement. Japan's men's volleyball and basketball teams were described as the "strongest in history." They challenged the world and fought fiercely, but were sadly defeated. We consider what is needed to overcome this "barrier" one step further. Also, "bad refereeing" became a hot topic at these Olympics. While cutting-edge technology like AI is being utilized, we analyze what the role of the referees will be.
Contemporary Portrait: Aki
Aki gives 100% to everything she does, from cooking to brand directing to modeling. Her cheerfulness is backed by strength. She experienced a poor childhood, marriage and divorce, and was hounded by the media. Despite this, she remains the ultimate "mother" to her two sons, and continues to spread a positive way of life through her various jobs. We took a closer look at Aki's life and the origins of her cheerfulness.
The 11th wave of coronavirus infections leads to a surge in infections
The "11th wave of COVID-19" is upon us. You're probably feeling the spread of infections around you. However, COVID-19 isn't the only virus on the rise; we're also seeing outbreaks of a variety of diseases, including severe strep throat, hand, foot, and mouth disease, influenza, and pharyngoconjunctival fever, creating an eerie rush of infectious diseases. Experts say that a "decline in herd immunity" appears to be behind this. We consider what kind of response and mental preparation is necessary.
● Kohei Matsushita × Hiroyasu Shoji
This is the fourth of six installments of the highly popular series "Matsushita Kohei: 10 Colors," a conversation with lighting designer Tokairin Hiroyasu. After hearing Tokairin say that he simply "loves light," Matsushita seemed convinced, saying, "I realized how much I love light." He seems to have been greatly inspired by the story from someone in a different industry. Please also take a look at the photographs taken in soft light.
