Beat making, low-end and global trends
The soundscape hidden in the latest work "AKIRA"
Singer-songwriter Fukuyama Masaharu celebrated his 30th anniversary in 2020. He's also a highly accomplished actor and photographer, but his musical career is also marked by his talents, not only in songwriting but also in arranging and self-recording. Fukuyama released his first album in six years and eight months, "AKIRA," in December. It's named after his father, who passed away when Fukuyama was 17. The title track, "AKIRA," is said to have become the theme running throughout the album, but we're also interested in the sound. It features a diverse range of beat patterns, incorporating elements of rock, trap, and Latin music, as well as a rich low-end that extends below 50 Hz. Fukuyama himself has also apparently committed himself to beatmaking, which is something we couldn't resist asking him about. We visited his private studio in Tokyo and asked about his production, leading to a deep conversation that even looked at global music trends. Here's the full story.
